APPLICATIONS CURRENTLY BEING ACCEPTED BY ODNR FOR $250,000
IN COASTAL MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE GRANTS

SANDUSKY, OH -- Communities and organizations along the Lake Erie coastline can now submit applications for $250,000 in Coastal Management Assistance Grants, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

The grants are designed to improve, protect and enhance Ohio's 265-mile Lake Erie shoreline. Grant applications will be accepted through December 6.

Coastal Management Assistance Grants are available to communities, local government agencies, non-profit organizations, planning commissions and educational institutions. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis, with applicants providing 50 percent of the project costs. The year 2003 grants will be awarded next spring for 15-month projects scheduled to begin after July 1, 2003.

Proposals that emphasize local planning to assist coastal communities in addressing growth, land use planning and recreational tourism issues will receive higher priority in funding.

Existing planning efforts and new planning proposals will be considered for funding. Preference will be given to applications from communities that have conducted successful community planning.

Applications and guidelines for the Coastal Management Assistance Grants program are available by writing to the ODNR Office of Coastal Management, 1630 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870; or by visiting the Office of Coastal Management home page at ohiodnr.com . Inquiries can also be directed to the Office of Coastal Management at 419-626-7986.
