COLUMBUS, OH - Recreational boating access will be improved next year at 10 sites throughout Ohio thanks to more than $3 million in grants awarded by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.

The grant awards range from $5,500 to improve the Lieb’s Island boat ramp at Buckeye Lake in central Ohio to $1,250,000 for construction of a marina breakwall on Lake Erie in Port Clinton.

Other funded projects include boating access facilities at the Findlay Reservoirs, Port Conneaut, the Ohio River, Grand River, City of Sheffield, as well as Buckeye Lake, Pymatuning and Grand Lake St. Marys state parks.

These Cooperative Boating Access Facility Program Grants are made available through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund. The fund is comprised of a portion of the state motor vehicle fuel tax, watercraft registration and titling fees and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis and are administered by the ODNR Division of Watercraft to improve public boating access for the state’s estimated 3 million recreational boaters.

The ODNR Division of Watercraft has also awarded $725,000 in Recreational Harbor Evaluation Grants for dredging projects in three Lake Erie harbors, including: Geneva, Sandusky Bay and Mentor Harbor.
