Pre-Drilling Water Sampling The links below provides landowners, public officials and environmental consultants with recommendations and best management practices (BMPs) for taking ground water samples where the owner of the ground water source wants to define pre-drilling water quality from their ground water supply. The fact sheet provides an overview for those considering collecting samples prior to oil and gas drilling. The BMPs provide the necessary steps to properly collect and analyze the samples taken. It is very important for the sample(s) to be taken following respective steps in the BMP in order for the sample results to have value.
