Boating in Ohio State Parks

Ohio State Park lakes range in size from 13 acres to 14,000 acres.

Many lakes accommodate all types of boating, including speed boating and water skiing, while other lakes limit horsepower or allow only non-motorized watercraft.

Many parks have marinas that offer boat rentals, boating supplies, fuel and refreshments • Some parks without marinas have boat rental concessions offering fishing boats, row boats, canoes or pontoon boats

Many parks provide docks or tie ups for seasonal rental • Pay your dock fees online • Parking, as well as launch ramp use, is free of charge
 

What You Should Know

  • All boaters on state park lakes must comply with the Ohio Watercraft Navigation Laws
  • Each passenger must have a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (life jacket or vest)
  • All boats must have a current valid registration
  • Water skiing is allowed only in designated zones
  • Personal watercraft (jet skis) are permitted on state park lakes that have a horsepower limit of 10hp or greater
  • General boating speed limit is 10 mph outside speed or ski zone, except in areas marked "Danger Zone," "Shore Zone," or "No Wake Zone" • From sunset to sunrise, the speed limit in speed zones is 10 mph
  • Sleeping on a boat is allowed only in designated boat camping areas after registering with the park office
  • Swimming from a boat is allowed only in designated boat swimming areas
  • Most large state park lakes offer docks for seasonal rental • Applications for seasonal dock lotteries at participating parks are accepted through August 31 • Contact individual parks for information
  • Airfoils are prohibited
  • Ice boating is allowed where posted on a number of state park lakes • Minimum thickness of 5 inches of ice is recommended for ice boating
