OHIO COASTAL ATLAS SHOWCASES LAKE ERIE REGIONAL RESOURCES
Second edition includes 240-pages of full-color maps, illustrative text and pictures
SANDUSKY, OH - A document intended to serve as a reservoir of information to help decision makers in their daily efforts relating to Ohio’s coastal region was recently released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Office of Coastal Management. The large, full-color Ohio Coastal Atlas Second Edition offers valuable insight to Lake Erie and its coast.
“The atlas is an exciting tool that has combined geographic mapping capabilities with explanatory text, graphics, pictures and contact sources to produce an easy-to-understand guide to many resources in the Lake Erie Watershed,” said Office of Coastal Management Chief John Watkins.
The 11-inch by 17-inch publication provides a framework for recognizing relationships and interactions between natural resources and human actions. Topics covered in the Atlas range from Lake Erie and the other four Great Lakes, coastal management, watersheds and lake science to coastal geology, aquifers, habitat, shipping and transportation and outdoor recreational opportunities.
While a limited number of the atlases were printed for distribution, the full document is available online at ohiodnr.com/coastal/gis. To sign up for a forthcoming DVD version of the atlas, contact the Coastal Office at 419-626-7980, coastal@dnr.state.oh.us or 105 West Shoreline Drive, Sandusky, OH 44870.
