To See the Best Views of Fall Colors

Visit an Ohio state forest and climb up a watchtower. The towers at Mohican, Tar Hollow and Scioto Trail state forests, provide unique vantage points for observing Ohio’s change of seasons. These watchtowers offer great opportunities for photo lovers to take colorful panoramic pictures of the changing leaves.

Mohican also offers a wheelchair-accessible alternative to the fire tower at the Gorge Overlook Picnic Area that gives a spectacular view of fall color.

Today, only seven of these historic structures remain standing in Ohio’s 20 state forests. Improved telephone communication and the use of airplanes in wildfire detection made Ohio’s 45 lookout towers obsolete.
