Ohio Natural Heritage Database
The Natural Heritage Database, managed by the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves' Natural Heritage Program, was started in 1976. It now contains more than 17,000 records which represent known locations for Ohio's rare plants and animals, high quality plant communities and other natural features.
Data are obtained from a broad range of sources throughout the state.
In addition to the division's needs, data are used in the department's environmental review process and are provided to consulting firms, federal, state and local government agencies, researchers, conservation groups and private citizens.
