Learn the Basics of Kayaking

The 7,200 square foot Kayak Pond gives youth the opportunity to experience kayaking in a safe and secure environment.

Youth 18 and under can kayak daily from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Those interested must check in at the Rudder’s Boat Shack located in the southeast quadrant of the Natural Resources Park behind the Amphitheater next to the Nature Preserve. At the Boat Shack, youth will be assigned a starting time and will need to check in on the east side of the kayak pond at that time. Families also have the opportunity to take keepsake photos with descriptive backdrops.

After checking in at the Pavilion, participants will be fitted for lifejackets and then given a short safety demonstration before beginning their kayaking adventure.

And a fun fact about the kayaks is that each one used at the State Fair are made of recycled materials.
