STEP 1
Organize your talent scout team with the help of your teacher. You will be part of a group of three or four students that make up the team. When you have formed your group, give it a name (such as “Baker, Smith and Freeman Consultants,” using the last names of your group members). You may make a logo (branding) for your team.
STEP 2
Your client, the director of the new Conservation and Recreation Department, has hired your talent scout team to recommend ten conservation and outdoor recreation positions and the people to fill those positions. To begin, you will need to select two concerns from each of the conservation and outdoor recreation categories listed on the Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Concerns page. There are six categories on this page, including one optional category for areas that are in the Lake Erie watershed. Use the Needs Assessment Record sheet to record your selections.
In order to identify which two concerns from each category are most relevant to your local area, review maps of your area and identify the uses of land and water in the area. Identify sources of drinking water, potential sources of pollution, forestland, wildlife and other natural resources in the area that need to be protected. Identify parks, especially those that include lakes, rivers and trails. Also identify any resource-based industries such as mining, farming and timber harvesting.
STEP 3
Your talent-scout team should select ten positions/employees from the ODNR employee interviews provided in the six links below. Each link matches a category on the Needs Assessment Record you completed in Step 2. For each position/employee you recommend, complete a Portfolio Evaluation to justify why you selected that candidate.

STEP 4
With your team members, create a power point presentation highlighting your group's choices of job positions and candidates.
Remember: Evaluating is not summarizing information. Using criteria as a basis for judgment makes a stronger evaluation. An evaluation should be fair and reasons the candidate was selected should be well supported.
