Your assignment:
This mission involves investigating our moon and local environments to see if a small living creature that has been discovered in Navarre, Ohio, came from the moon (as several people have concluded) or just out of it’s normal local environment.
This creature has all the features that would allow for its survival on the moon but how is it able to survive just fine in Navarre, Ohio. It’ appearance is such that the first impression is that it is not from planet earth. It does not resemble any life forms familiar to local residents. Preliminary testing indicates that it does have a chemical composition commonly associated with moon rock samples, which has lead to the unsupported conclusion that the creature is from the moon. Could this creature really be from our moon? As a scientist who studies local environments and is often called on by astronomers to consult on extraterrestrial phenomena, you and your team will have to determine the creature’s origin.

Description of Creature
-a bone marrow test revealed traces of breccias, arnalcolite, and radioactive materials
-an X-ray revealed that the creature had no lungs or need of respiratory processes
-an interview brought to light that the creature had no clue what sedimentary rock is, but the creature kept communicating something about a Maria

| 1. |
Learn what tools are used in the study of local environments and who uses these tools. |
| 2. |
Learn what tools are used in the study of outer space. Are these the same tools that local environment scientists use? |
| 3. |
Use information about the tools used by scientists to study earth environments and non-earth environments to study the creature and develop a plan of action. Support your findings about the creature. |
| 4. |
Use information to defend your inference, describing why you feel the creature is or is not from the moon. |
| 5. |
Use a computer presentation tool (PowerPoint, Keynote, Smart Notebook) to create a presentation of your data. |
| 6. |
Use an organized method to present an explanation of how you used your chosen tools, why you chose them, and what you discovered about the creature. Include in your presentation how these tools are used to study local environments in Ohio, who uses these tools to study Ohio environments, how their work helps us care for our Ohio environment and how knowing about Ohio environment supports your conclusion about the creature. |
