Process

Work in groups of two (determined by the teacher) to research, investigate, and draw conclusions (write it down) then discuss your results with another group of two (determined by the teacher) and create a Power Point that explains both of your ideas whether they are the same or different.

Step 1.

Gather information about different tools that are used to investigate objects and matter outside the earth's atmosphere. Find out if Natural Resources scientists use these same tools and how they are used.

Step 2.

Make a list of the tools that you find. Include how they are used and what they are used for. You should have at least 5 tools per group and each tool needs to be related to both the study of earth and the study of objects and matter outside the earth's atmosphere.

Step 3.

After researching the tools, collaborate to decide which tools that you will use during your investigation of the creature. Keep in mind you need to present evidence to support your decisions.

At this site you can find out how the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources scientists study local environments to help or manage deer, fish, prairie, and plant populations and the tools they use. Use this information to justify your choice of tools to study far away planets and the creatures that my inhabit them. Keep in mind you are to make a decision about the tools you will use to evaluate the creature found in Navarre, Ohio.

Find others on your own if you can't find what you are looking for in these.
Resources outside the classroom found by the students MUST BE approved by the teacher

Step 4.

Complete a group presentation. Your group will present your findings to the class. This program needs to be at least 10 minutes, but no more than 15 minutes in length. Practice your final presentation so that you are not reading from the slides. Each member of the group must present a portion of the findings.

Project Timeline

7 -10 days to research and develop presentation
2 days for group presentations (teacher will assign presentation order)
