Take advantage of the six golf courses around the state this fall. The natural landscape of Ohio can pose challenges and rewards for all levels of golfers. Make sure to visit the Golf Digest’s 4-Star rated course at Salt Fork State Park to experience why they list it in Places to Play! For Ohio’s golfers, fall is the season to be on the courses and ODNR has compiled a list of those throughout the state.
NORTHWEST
Maumee Bay State Park (Lucas County) – The extra long rough lends a Scottish-links style to this course along the wind-swept shores of Lake Erie. The par 72 layout is wide open and fully exposed to the elements that the fall season may bring.
NORTHEAST
Punderson State Park (Geauga County) – This course is long and demanding, but worth the effort. The par 72 layout stretches over 6,800 yards and offers some especially long 3-and 5-par holes on the backside.
SOUTHWEST
Hueston Woods State Park (Butler/Preble counties)– Golfing at this championship-length course is more than a game, it’s a natural encounter. The expansive par 72 layout stretching over 260 acres of rolling terrain offers large undulating greens, more than 30 sand bunkers, four ponds and many mature trees that will burst with fall color.
Deer Creek State Park (Pickaway County) – The lies are mostly level, but several extra long holes on this par 72 championship course invite golfers to test their skills and savor the game. Fifty-two sand traps, 10 ponds, and fairways flanked by maturing trees add to the challenge.
Shawnee State Park (Scioto County) – Be taken away by the natural fall beauty of the course near the banks of the beautiful Ohio River. The par 72 layout sports plenty of water hazards over its 6,407-yard length. The 5th hole is simply breathtaking, coming around a bend and opening up to a spectacular view of the Ohio River winding below, bursting with fall color. SOUTHEAST
Salt Fork State Park (Guernsey County) – Perched high atop the rugged terrain of southeast Ohio, this course offers golfers special challenges and rewards, such as the natural fall beauty surrounding the course. Come see for yourself why it earns a 4-Star Rating in Golf Digest’s Places to Play!
