Bedrock Coverage Stratigraphy & File Names

The coverage name is designed to let the user know that the coverage is from Ohio, contains bedrock aquifer information, the name of the geologic system, and the bedrock aquifer name. As an example Ohbedpd, the Oh stands for Ohio, the bed stands for bedrock, the P is the first letter of the geologic system and the remaining letters define the bedrock formation or unit.

In our example: Ohbedpd = Ohio + bedrock + Permian + Dunkard Group.

On the left you will find the coverage filename and on the right is a list of the bedrock units contained in that aquifer coverage. For a more detailed description of available information on bedrock aquifer coverages, please review the 1:100,000 legends or the complete statewide stratigraphic sections included in the zipped file. Below is a list of the bedrock aquifer coverages, the geologic system they belong in, and the formations or units they are composed of.

NOTE: Except for Map Gallery Images, all downloads are self extracting zipped files. Appropriate supporting documents are included within each zipped file. Supporting documents will be in Microsoft Word Office 97 format.

Files downloaded from the ODNR Centralized GIS Server will contain ArcInfo Export (.e00) files. Downloads from the Division of Water ftp site will contain ArcView Shape (.shp) files. Click here for more information on these file types and the software requirements to use them
