What is the Tallgrass Prairie?

Come see a representation of the tall grass prairies once found throughout Ohio.

More than 85 species of prairie plants were transplanted from locations across the state. Species in this display include: big bluestem, Indian grass, purple coneflower, gray-headed coneflower, whorled rosinweed, prairie dock, stiff goldenrod.

There is also a helpful information booth next to the prairie with a district preserve manager on hand all day to answer any questions you may have.


Is there really a wetland at the fair?

What can I expect to see in it?

Yes! Different types of waterfowl you may see include: mallards, red heads and black ducks; Canada geese and the endangered trumpeter swan. The wetlands habitat also features turtles, frogs, crayfish, water spiders and dragonflies.

Various plants taken from wetlands across Ohio include: arrow plant, bone set, Cardinal flower, blue verbane and swamp milkweed.
