Wear It Ohio! Kicks Off to a Great StartWeat It Ohio! logo

Over 200 loaner life jackets have been distributed at Wear It Ohio! events this season. This safety awareness campaign was piloted at Portage Lakes, Salt Fork, CJ Brown and Caesar Creek lakes and ends July 12 with an event at Portage Lakes.  » read more

Boaters Offer Their Opinions

Division of Watercraft staff met with boaters during a series of public meetings held around the state in April and May to receive comments regarding future management of Ohio’s boating programs. Boaters were also invited to complete a survey. Boater comments and surveys may still be submitted to the Division of Watercraft until June 30.   » read more

Paddle Quest Series a Hit!

Gander Mountain’s new Paddle Quest series has been a success this year in introducing Ohioans to recreational paddle sports at selected Ohio state parks and lodge resorts. This new event series  is held in partnership with the Division of Parks and Recreation and the Division of Watercraft. Paddle Quest visits Salt Fork State Park July 12 and Mohican State Park July 26.   » Details from May's Issue

Clean Boating Act Update

The federal Clean Boating Act of 2008 (S. 2766) was approved by the Senate in May and heads to the House when Congress is back in session. If this act isn't signed into law before September 30, the EPA is poised to follow a court rule that requires them to implement a waste and pollution discharge permitting system for all boats.  » read more

Future Events

...ODNR Park at State Fair to have Kayak Tank

Visitors to the State Fair can enjoy the fun of learning how to paddle a kayak at a new attraction offered by the Division of Watercraft this year. A hands-on kayaking tank is being located next to the ODNR Pavilion in the southeast corner of the fairgrounds.

The tank will allow about 15 paddlers at a time to paddle for a short time under the guidance and supervision of Division of Watercraft staff and volunteers; kayaks, paddles and life jackets will be provided. Be sure to visit the ODNR Park and this new feature at the Ohio State Fair (July 30-August 10; State Fairgrounds in Columbus)
