Paddle Quest
The season’s final Paddle Quest event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 26 at Salt Fork State Park near Cambridge. The event series is hosted by retailer Gander Mountain in partnership with ODNR. No experience is required to participate in this free event, which is open to people of all ages, although all are required to wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. Canoes, kayaks, paddles and life jackets are not provided, so participants must bring their own equipment. Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. New U.S. Coast Guard 9th District Commander
U.S. Coast Guard Admiral and Elyria, Ohio native Peter Neffenger, age 53, recently was appointed commander of the 9th District headquartered in Cleveland. He now oversees all Coast Guard operations for the Great Lakes region and St. Lawrence Seaway. In his youth, Admiral Neffenger is said to have taken sailing lessons based out of a Lorain marina. Neffenger commands a staff of nearly 8,000 men and women assigned to 47 separate U.S. Coast Guard stations throughout the 9th District. The district encompasses a region of 6,700 shoreline miles and 1,500 miles of the international border with Canada. His most recent assignment was at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington D.C. overseeing drafting of the agency’s budget.

Horsepower Limit Unchanged at Piedmont, Clendening Lakes
Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District announced that there will be NO changes in horsepower limits or boating rules for Piedmont Lake or Clendening Lake in Harrison County. Motors greater than 10 horsepower may not be operated on either lake. |
