Ohioans Honored

Among those persons and organizations recognized by the National Water Safety Congress at the 2009 International Boating and Water Safety Summit, held April 19-22 in Panama City, Florida, for their achievements and commitment to boater safety education were the following from Ohio:

Awards of Merit

Blystone’s Marine Supply, of Mentor, for their support of Spirit of America boating programs; the Columbus Sail and Power Squadron for painting and display of life jacket signage at Delaware Reservoir along U.S. Route 23; Wendell Thompson of Bellville who is an instructor with Spirit of America and the Mohican School Program; James Kriner of Lexington with the North Central Ohio Safe Boating Council; Nickolas J. Suvak, of Madison, who is a volunteer instructor for Spirit of America; and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger and former Division of Watercraft area supervisor John Wargo, of Columbus.

Letters of Commendation

RAD Planning Team, Water Safety Council of South Central Ohio for hosting Recreation Accessibility Day; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger Patricia A. Hixson of Bainbridge, an event organizer for Recreation Accessibility Day (RAD); Carl Anderson of Ashtabula, who is a Spirit of America instructor, Alyssa Duer of Mentor, an instructor and Sprit of America program coordinator; Jennifer Way-Young of the Delaware County Health Department, for work as outdoors education program coordinator; and George Christ of Bay Village, a program coordinator with Spirit of America.
