I found a boat. What do should I do?
All boats used in Ohio are required to be marked in some manner, and it is likely that the owner can be located.
If you have found a boat recently
... on your property, floating downstream unattended, grounded or beached after a flood -- in any situation, contact your local law enforcement authorities immediately.
Write down any identifying characteristics -- boat's OH numbers, brand name, color, model, hull ID number, etc. -- and give that information along with the location of the boat to your local police or sheriff's office.
If the boat is on your property and has been there longer than 6 months
...you should follow procedure for "Abandoned Boats."
"Finders, Keepers" does NOT apply to boats in Ohio. You will not be able to register the boat if you do not have adequate proof of ownership. |
