In Ohio, if a boating accident results in loss of life, injury requiring medical attention beyond first aid, total loss of vessel, or damage to property in excess of $500, by law the boat operator must file an accident report with ODNR Division of Watercraft.

The "Recreational Boating Accident Report" is a 20+page compilation of boating accident statistics for the year. Accidents are analyzed based on type of boat, owner demographic, cause of accident, etc. and trends are noted.
