Berlin Reservoir
Ohio’s 5th largest inland lake at 3,590 acres is located in the scenic countryside of northeast Ohio along Ohio Route 224, two miles east of Deerfield in Portage County. Map
Constructed and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Berlin Reservoir is well-suited for all kinds of boating sports including sailing, paddling, power cruising and water skiing.
All types of watercraft are permitted on the lake, which has no restriction on horsepower limits. There are, however, five special boating zones that have established rules and speed limits to allow for specific activities such as sailing only and water skiing.
The usually smooth, glassy water surface makes Berlin a popular water skiing destination. The lake measures 18 miles long and has an average width of 3/4 mile. The average water depth is 16 feet with a maximum depth of 76 feet.
The Mill Creek Recreation Area, located on Bedell Road five miles east of Deerfield, attracts many visitors to the lake who enjoy boating and other types of outdoors recreation. A boat launch facility is available for use to boaters for a small fee. Additional boat launch ramps are located at Bonner Road, Les’s Bait and Dutch Harbor Marina.
Boating and fishing supplies, along with marina services are available through concessionaires located on the lake. Full campground facilities with over 350 sites are located on the Mill Creek Recreation Area which is open each summer season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Berlin Reservoir also is known for its fine sportfishing opportunities that include walleye, bass, muskie, crappie and bluegill. The lake is known principally for its excellent walleye fishing and is among a small number of Ohio inland lakes that supports a muskie fishery.
Berlin Reservoir is 50 miles southeast of Cleveland and even a shorter distance from Akron, Warren and Youngstown.
