Lake Loramie

Constructed in 1825 as a feeder lake for the Miami and Erie Canal the 1,655-acre Lake Loramie in Shelby County offers 110 boat docks eight boat launch ramps, that include the West Bank Ramp along Ohio Route 362 and the Lutman Road ramp located just south of Ohio Route 119. Map

While boats of unlimited horsepower may operate on Lake Loramie, much of the lake is a no-wake zone with the exception of a designated speed zone in the western end of the lake and a travel zone that connects the narrow eastern half of the lake with the wider bay found in the western end of the lake.

Lake Loramie consists of a long, narrow channel that offers good boating opportunities for paddlers. Canoes may be rented at this lake.

Unlike some of Ohio’s larger and more popular lakes, boating on Lake Loramie offers a different type of boating opportunity that is more suited to those who enjoy a slower pace in their boating experience.

The lake is popular among anglers seeking bluegills, crappies, catfish and bass. The lake and surrounding state park also offer 30 miles of shoreline, including a 600-foot sandy swimming beach. Additional park activities include hiking, camping, picnicking and a nature center.

Lake Loramie is located near Minster and just south of Ohio Route 119. It is approximately 40 miles north of Dayton, 70 miles northwest of Columbus and 95 miles south of Toledo. The lake also is located less than a 30-minute drive southeast from Grand Lake St. Marys.
