The lake averages 11 feet deep and has a maximum average depth of 44 feet. The lake contains 40 miles of shoreline that includes a protected wildlife management area closed to all boating and fishing in the far north end of the lake above Denman Road. At the southern end of the lake is Mosquito Creek Lake State Park.
Boaters will find this to be a popular destination as it affords many opportunities to enjoy different types of boats that include sailboats, runabouts, bow riders, cruisers, pontoons, bass boat and other fishing boats, JetSkis and ski boats. The lake offers unlimited horsepower, but does have some restricted speed zones that include a 15 mile per hour speed limit for the lake area located north of the Ohio Route 88 Causeway. Additional speed and no-wake zones are prominently marked by navigational markers and signs.
Boaters also will find ten boat launching facilities, seven of which are operated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Army Corps of Engineers. A three-lane boat ramp is located on old Route 305 near the state park entrance five miles outside of Warren. Another launch ramp is located at the Route 88 Causeway 12 miles from Warren and north of the state park entrance. Additional launch ramps are located at the Causeway Sports Shop located on Pikie Bay and Dan’s Marina. Dockage and other marina services that include boat rentals are located on the lake as well.
The state park offers 234 campground sites along with shower facilities, a swimming beach, self-guided nature trail and picnic areas.
Mosquito Creek Lake offers excellent walleye fishing opportunities that attract boat anglers as well as shore anglers. Anglers here also catch yellow perch, bass, bluegills, crappies, catfish and even a few northern pike.
