Pymatuning Lake

The 14,000-acre lake is unique in that its location is on the Ohio-Pennsylvania border near Andover in Ashtabula County, Ohio and in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Both states share in management of the lake and its resources, with about 3,000 acres of the lake situated within Ohio.

Boaters may not use motors larger than 10-horsepower. Five launch ramps are available on the Ohio side of the lake and two marinas serve boaters on the Pennsylvania side of the lake.

Sport fishing is highly popular on Pymatuning Lake as are sailing, paddling and cruising aboard pontoon boats. Fishing opportunities for muskies are rated excellent and the lake is stocked annually with these trophy game fish. Largemouth bass fishing also is rated excellent. Yellow perch, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish and smallmouth bass fishing are rated good. Walleye, the most sought-after game fish in the lake, has a fair rating for fishing opportunity

Ohio and Pennsylvania boat anglers may fish anywhere on the water with their respective resident fishing licenses. Shoreline fishing requires a valid Ohio fishing license when on the Ohio portion of the lake shoreline and a Pennsylvania fishing license when on that state’s portion of the shoreline.

The tranquil lake is a popular boating and tourist destination because of its remote setting, its size and its fishing and camping opportunities. Because its is largely unprotected with windbreaks, windy and stormy conditions can sometimes pose threats to safe navigation.

The 3,500-acre park now offers recreational boaters and other visitors 360 seasonal docks, 330 campsites with electricity, 21 campsites without electricity, 26 family cottages and 32 standard cottages.

Pymatuning Lake is located 40 miles north of Youngstown, 81 miles east of Cleveland, and is 98 miles west of Jamestown, New York and 105 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
