The
interactive map for the Ohio Mineral Industries Report
depicts the locations of mines and quarries that are capable of
producing coal, limestone, dolomite, sand and gravel, salt, sandstone,
conglomerate, clay, shale, gypsum, and peat. Some of the locations of
the
mining operations depicted since 2006 are based on Global
Positioning System (GPS) coordinates obtained in the field by ODNR,
Division of Mineral Resources Management (DMRM)
mine inspectors; the remaining mine-site locations are based on DMRM
permit maps and should be considered approximate. No georeferenced,
digital mine outlines are currently available. The base map includes
county and township boundaries, highways, railroads, as well as major rivers and lakes.
The Ohio Mineral Industries Map is part of the legislatively mandated
Report on Ohio Mineral Industries produced annually by the Division of
Geological Survey.
The Report on Ohio Mineral Industries contains detailed
information (owner, production, sales, value, employment, wages,
geology, and end-use) on active coal mines, coal processing facilities,
and permitted industrial-mineral operations in the state. The full
report with all text, figures, and maps in an Adobe Acrobat portable
document is available at:
Summary information on Ohio mining activity (contact, production,
etc.) for an individual operation can be accessed by activating the i
(Information) tool icon found on the interactive map tool bar, then
selecting a mine or quarry location in the geographical area of
interest. Use the ? (Help) button to find out more on how to interact
